- Rankin came from Scotland in 1884 as Manager of the Queensland Colliers Ltd Coal mines.

This house was the centre piece for social life in Howard in it's hey day and is famous for it's association with the first female senator in Queensland DAME ANNABEL RANKIN becoming a Liberal senator between 1946 and 1971. recognized as a pioneer in Australian womens politics.
